Welcome to Troop 1249!
Upcoming Events
Merry Christmas!
We will have a PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) this coming Tuesday December 30th. The next regular troop meeting will be January 6th. Next months troop outing will be winter cabin camping at Camp Rodney!
Our last few events were a huge success!
Earlier in the month we had our annual Christmas Pageant. We have a lot of very talented musicians and excellent speakers. Reverend Stetler gave another wonderful talk to the boys.
The following Saturday early in the morning, we had a bunch of boys and adults go out and help at S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat). A few of the boys had so much fun and personally got a lot out of helping others that they wanted to go back again. S.O.M.E. serves breakfast and lunch to the homeless every day. On an average breakfast, they can serve up to 400 people, so they can use all the help they can get. There were also volunteers from the local area as well as one group of girls and a teacher that do it every month from a high school National Honor Society. If you do decide to help, you should be there at 71 O Street NW by 7am. You will be done by 9am.
Lastly we had an excellent turnout at warm nights. Many scouts and parents participated in helping to set-up, cook, and serve food to the homeless that came to St. Matthews. One of the hardest things I saw on Tuesday night was a single family of 8 people and a single mom with 3 children. We are all so very blessed. We should all do our very best to help others all throughout the year.
Many thanks to all scouts, scouters and parents who helped!
Jamboree 2010 - Celebrate 100 years of Scouting!
The countdown clock is ticking so start making your plans to attend! This is truly a once in a life time adventure.
Nestled in the rolling green hills of Virginia, close to our nation’s capital, Fort A.P. Hill lies near many historical Civil War landmarks. At Fort A.P. the Boy Scouts of America uses approximately 3,000 acres of land to support a city of more than 43,000 Scouts and leaders.
What is There to Do? You name it! The jamboree program reflects the skills of Scouting—physical fitness, environmental conservation, our national heritage, and the true spirit of Scouting.
See yourself rappelling, discovering scuba, kayaking, rafting, and sailing. Experience trap shooting, archery, bikeathlons, buckskin games, confidence courses, conservation trail, and more! There is not enough time in the day for all the exciting activities that are there waiting for you to try.
Daily activities include an incredible merit badge midway, arts and sciences, a re-creation of Baden-Powell’s original Scout camp on Brownsea Island, an American Indian village, regional entertainment stages, and many other activities. The arena shows are a highlight for all participants. The jamboree is Scouting at its very best!
Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts must be at least First Class Scouts. They must have completed the sixth grade or be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2010. How Much Will It Cost?
The jamboree fee covers shelter, food, insurance, equipment, program material, transportation, tours, and prejamboree training. The total fee is shown in the Local Council Jamboree Information Sheet. Total fee is set by your local council. There is a $10 Processing Fee due at submission of this application. For more Information, check out http://www.bsajamboree.org

Welcome to Troop 1249
Our Sponsor: We are sponsored by and operate out of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church.
Where & When: We meet most Tuesday nights from 7:30 – 9:00pm in the Community Room at the church. St. Matthew’s is located at 14900 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD. Our campouts/monthly outings are generally scheduled on the 3rd weekend of the month. On the Tuesday after the monthly outing, we have our PLC (Patrol Leader’s Council) Meeting. Board of reviews for rank advancement also occur at 7pm on the night of the PLC.
What We Do: Being a Scout led organization, we execute the program that is planned out by the PLC. The scouts also take assignment to coordinate each month’s campout/outing. Working with the Scout Leadership of the Troop, we put together a program to help to develop good lifetime skills and values in our Scouts. The focus of our troop is to:
· Offer scouts responsible fun and adventure
· Train scouts in citizenship, service, and leadership
· Maintain a constant outings schedule, with one overnight per month
· Instill lifetime values and develop ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law
· Provide an active advancement program
Some of our highlights for the upcoming year are:
· Snow Skiing
· Backpacking
· Canoeing
· Klondike Derby
· Summer Camp
· Whitewater Rafting
· Bicycling
